Looking to sharpen your birding skills? In this introductory class, you’ll learn how to recognize and distinguish a variety of diurnal raptors (e.g., hawks, eagles, falcons, etc.) . We’ll look at the key features that make raptors unique and cover specifics like size, shape, flight patterns, plumage, and habitat for the most common raptors of our area.

Cape May is a fantastic place to practice raptor identification. The Cape May peninsula acts as a funnel to concentrate migrating raptors in the fall and gives Cape May its title of “Raptor Capitol of North America”. Join Senior Naturalist Kristy Morley and visit Cape May Point State Park and put your classroom learnings into practice. There are 12 species of diurnal raptors (e.g., hawks, eagles, falcons, etc.) that are seen regularly in early October, and rarities like Golden Eagle and Swainson’s Hawk are possible.
Come enjoy a serene section of the Wissahickon watershed on this 3 mile hike. This loop hike will begin and end at the historic Evans-Mumbower Mill, traveling along the Green Ribbon Trail, through Natural Lands' Gwynedd Preserve, across three stream crossings, and back on the Green Ribbon Trail to the Mill.
Come out for a fall walk at Willow Lake Farm with Herbalist and Forager, Alison Rohde, as she shares how to identify, harvest, and prepare these tasty berries. We’ll meet a few other edible and medicinal plants along the way, and spend some time together gathering (and managing) this unique fruit.
