Byrne Family Preserve

Trail Overview

Wissahickon Trails is working with local communities to prepare the Byrne Family Preserve for hiking and birding! Located in Lower Gwynedd at the headwaters of the Trewellyn Creek, the preserve contains 16 acres of open space, including woodlands, meadows, and freshwater marsh.

Wissahickon Trails worked with the Byrne family to create this preserve. Dr. Robert Byrne decided to preserve the land as a memorial to his daughter, who passed away in 2014. His decision ensured that her vision for open space became a reality.

Over the next several years, Wissahickon Trails will work with volunteers and community partners to restore habitats for area wildlife, native plants, and vanishing birds. Some of the most exciting species seen here include great horned owls, red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks, and in the spring, many kinds of migrating warblers. We plan to develop public hiking trails on this preserve so that all may enjoy what is has to offer.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Byrne Family Preserve in the years to come!
