Autumnberry Ramble

Saturday, October 11 at 10:00 am

Nature Program

Everyone

The bad news: Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) is an invasive shrub that can have a negative impact on our ecosystems. The good news: we can eat them to beat them! The berries of Autumn Olive - also called Autumnberries or Japanese Silverberries - are incredibly abundant and delicious. Come out for a fall walk at Willow Lake Farm with Herbalist and Forager, Alison Rohde, as she shares how to identify, harvest, and prepare these tasty berries. We’ll meet a few other edible and medicinal plants along the way, and spend some time together gathering (and managing) this unique fruit. Bring a container for your harvest!

Accessibility Information

This program includes an outdoor walk along natural trails (mostly mowed grass) at a slow pace and for up to 1.5 miles. There are no restrooms at the preserve, but there is one at CVS just a short walk away. Ticks are common, so protective clothing and spray are recommended.
