Participate in the 125th Audubon Christmas Bird Count! Join Wissahickon Trails staff and explore Four Mills Nature Reserve to count all the winter species we see and hear. This important, long-running wildlife census collects data across North America (and a bit of South America) to assess the health of bird populations, and to help guide conservation action. More information on the history of the Christmas Bird Count can be found here: https://www.audubon.org/conservation/history-christmas-bird-count

Previous years have found Winter Wren, Brown Creeper, and Barred Owl at this site. All levels of birders welcome (including beginners!) The walk will last approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Sturdy, waterproof shoes are recommended. Bring binoculars (loaners available).

Accessibility Info

The walk will be approximately 0.5 miles over fairly flat natural trails (roots and stones common) at a slow walking pace, with multiple stops for standing and listening. Access to trails requires crossing two bridges with multiple steps, additionally two short stepping stone crossings are on the route. Restrooms are available.

We are happy to offer this program at no cost to participants, but if you are able, a $10 suggested donation would be greatly appreciated. Wissahickon Trails is a local, community-supported nonprofit. Our budget depends entirely on the generosity of our supporters—individuals, foundations, and corporations.  Donate online today.
