The International Monarch Monitoring Blitz invites community scientists from across North America to come together with the shared goal of helping to protect and conserve the beloved and emblematic monarch butterfly. In 2022, nearly 6,000 observations were submitted by 2,600 volunteers in support of trinational efforts to better understand the monarch butterfly’s breeding productivity, range, and timing in North America.


Join Senior Naturalist, Kristy Morley to monitor milkweed plants for monarch eggs and caterpillars as well as adult monarch butterflies. No experience necessary, all training will be done on-site.

Space is limited, so reserve your spot early!


Please note:

  • These efforts will require going off-trail in areas with heavy vegetation, including poison ivy
  • Long pants and long sleeved shirts are recommended
  • Closed toe shoes are required
  • Tick prevention strategies should be used (more information will be provided upon registration)
  • Hat for shade and water are also recommended
  • Limited access to benches
  • No access to bathrooms
  • The program will be slow-paced with a distance of 0.5 - 0.75 miles 
  • Participants will need to be able to bend over to look underneath the milkweed leaves
