Join us (virtually) to help document the species on our preserves using iNaturalist. A BioBlitz is a community-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible.
The purpose is to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, and other organisms as possible in or around Wissahickon Trails preserves, so that these occurrences can be documented. The data will be used by Wissahickon Trails to better understand which species occur on its lands and where those species occur. Knowledge of these species helps guide land management decisions on these properties.
For one week in each season, Wissahickon Trails has designated 5 preserves that we are targeting to collect species information from. Pick your favorite preserve, or explore someplace new. Grab your phone or camera and start observing.
All data should be collected using iNaturalist. Click here to visit the iNaturalist website. To download the mobile app, click here for Google Play and here for the Apple App Store. Note: Use of the mobile app is not required. Photos can be made using any kind of camera and uploaded through the iNaturalist website.
A video presentation about how to use iNaturalist can be viewed here.
Future BioBlitz weeks coming in June, September and December.
